The Power of Place Value
Key Concepts:
The position of a digit in a number determines its value. This is **place value**.
- The **Ones** place tells you how many single units you have.
- The **Tens** place tells you how many groups of ten you have.
Comparing Numbers:
To compare two numbers, always look at the largest place value first (the **Tens** place for numbers under 100):
| Numbers | Tens | Ones | Comparison |
|---|---|---|---|
| 45 vs 21 | **4** vs 2 | - | 45 is **Greater Than** 21 |
| 53 vs 58 | 5 vs 5 | **3** vs **8** | 53 is **Smaller Than** 58 |
