The Math Behind Grouping
Key Concepts:
Grouping helps us count quickly and is the foundation for **multiplication** and **division**. When you group $N$ items into sets of size $S$:
- The number of groups you make is like the **quotient** in division.
- The items left over are the **remainder**.
Counting with Groups:
Instead of counting one-by-one, you can **skip count** by the group size (e.g., 5, 10, 15, 20...). This is much faster!
| Group Size | Skip Counting Start |
|---|---|
| 2 | 2, 4, 6, 8, ... |
| 5 | 5, 10, 15, 20, ... |
| 10 | 10, 20, 30, 40, ... |
