Effects of Exercise
On Breathing Rate and Recovery
Observe how different exercise intensities affect breathing rate and heart rate, and how long it takes to recover to resting levels after exercise stops.
At Rest
Heart Rate: 72 BPM
Observation:
Select an exercise intensity and click "Start Exercise" to observe changes in breathing and heart rate.
Physiological Effects of Exercise
Immediate Effects:
- Increased breathing rate: To supply more oxygen and remove CO₂
- Increased heart rate: To deliver oxygen faster to muscles
- Deeper breaths: To increase oxygen intake
- Muscle movement: Contractions require energy and oxygen
Recovery Process:
After exercise, breathing and heart rate remain elevated to repay oxygen debt (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption - EPOC), removing lactic acid and restoring energy stores.
