Human Physiology Concepts
Electrocardiogram (ECG):
Records the electrical activity of the heart. Key components:
- P wave: Atrial depolarization
- QRS complex: Ventricular depolarization
- T wave: Ventricular repolarization
Spirometry:
Measures lung function and capacity:
- Tidal Volume: Normal breathing volume (~500ml)
- Vital Capacity: Maximum exhale after maximum inhale (~4-5L)
- FEV1: Forced expiratory volume in 1 second
Reflex Response:
Automatic, rapid responses to stimuli involving:
- Receptor: Detects stimulus
- Sensory neuron: Carries signal to CNS
- Motor neuron: Carries response signal
- Effector: Muscle or gland that responds
